Whenever I'm in the city centre and in need of a Wetherspoons fix, this is my watering hole of choice! The location is great. A short walk from New St, it is close to the station and right by the Arcadian, the Hippodrome, the gay quarter and tonne of great restaurants.
It is popular so there is always a busy vibe. In my opinion, there is nothing worse than an empty pub! The service is always great and the drinks and food are standard Wetherspoons. The food is possibly a bit above some of their other establishments, I don't ever recall being disappointed here but it is standard fayre. If it's what you're looking for, it's a bloody good deal!
The seats out front are particularly good for daytime drinking and people watching in the sun! Cheap, cheerful and you often get tempted to go somewhere else in the area. -

Cheap and cheerful wetherspoons pub.
Quite a large pub and really well located if you want a pre-theatre drink or a going to the Glee Club for example.
I wouldn't actively choose to go here-location here is the key factor! -

The Dragon Inn seems like the kind of place that you find you've been going to for years but can't remember why. The food isn't all that great, but it is decent. The location is pretty nice, but there are certainly other pubs in the area that will accept your money. The staff isn't particularly friendly or helpful and were a little condescending when I didn't know how they did business (I'd been in the country for about 6 hours, OK?). It is owned by the Weatherspoons, so you're not really propping up a local business, but you know what to expect, I guess.
Price, maybe? The prices for the entire menu were pretty good.
Since I'm not local, I don't think I will fall into the trap of questioning why I keep coming back to the Dragon Inn as there is much more of Birmingham to experience. -

A traditional JD Weatherspoons, where there is more character outside the building than the inside.
This bar has two bar servers areas but neither of them are quick at serving customers this is due to lack of staff to serve anyone.
I have had breakfast here and found it pretty good, but even early in the morning there is a lack of staff and this place is pretty busy it it showed in the staff where several looked stressed out.
At weekends this place is mayhem and probably should be avoided as it gets pretty rowdy. -

In the words of Yelp 'What Keeps you coming back?' Price. Price keeps me coming back, its cheap and cheerful - has a decent outdoor area and does actually have quite a wide selection of drinks.
Like other Wetherspoons it sells food that is good value for money but usually lacking in taste and sometimes quality, I prefer this to the Square Peg and its roomier than the Briar Rose.
Don't expect anything classy, if anything it is a little grimey but whats kind of expected isn't it?
